OPEN DOORS
Open Doors is a global Christian charity standing alongside persecuted Christians in over 70 countries. Founded by Brother Andrew in 1955, the charity exists to strengthen and support believers who risk imprisonment, violence, or even death simply for following Jesus.
Ministries and Global Support:
Bible Distribution: At the heart of Open Doors’ mission is providing access to God’s Word. Smuggled across borders, translated into heart languages, and delivered in print or digital formats, Bibles are placed into the hands of those who long to read them—often for the first time in their lives.
Emergency Aid: In areas devastated by war, displacement, or natural disaster, Open Doors provides vital relief including food, medicine, shelter, and trauma care—particularly in regions where Christian communities are deliberately targeted or marginalised.
Long-term Support & Discipleship: Open Doors works to rebuild hope through discipleship programmes, vocational training, literacy courses, and leadership development—equipping the persecuted Church not only to survive, but to thrive.
Women's Ministry: Special care is given to women and girls who are doubly vulnerable to persecution and abuse. Through safe houses, counselling, and empowerment initiatives, Open Doors helps restore dignity and confidence to countless women in need.
Children and Youth: From secret Sunday schools to trauma support and education access, Open Doors helps children affected by persecution to grow up knowing they are not forgotten by God or His people.
Advocacy and Awareness: In the UK and Ireland, Open Doors raises awareness through campaigns, speaking engagements, and the annual World Watch List—a detailed ranking of the 50 countries where it is most dangerous to be a Christian.
Church Engagement: Open Doors encourages churches to pray, give, and speak out for the persecuted Church. Through resources, events, and stories from the field, they help believers in freedom stand in solidarity with those who are not.
Vision and Heart:
Open Doors believes that when one part of the Body suffers, every part suffers with it (1 Corinthians 12:26). Their vision is to see a world where every Christian who is persecuted for their faith is remembered, supported, and empowered to shine the light of Christ in the darkest places.
